Drivers already have the option of making payments via the Mercedes-Benz app. The Mercedes Pay system allows drivers to shop directly from the automaker. Drivers can also use the app to look up Mercedes parts and accessories, check vehicle information, lock their vehicle, send destinations to their car, and more. What is Mercedez Pay+
Mercedes Pay+ has partnered with Visa in allowing drivers to make payments for their vehicle directly from their car. Instead of having to key in a pin, or use a phone, drivers simply need to use their fingertips to authorize a payment. The secured payment system takes place via Visa’s new cloud token framework.
This framework complies with the latest cyber security standards as it allows drivers to make a secure online payment using authentication factors that are disguised as a token. Essentially, the online payment system stores a driver’s authentication data in secure digital tokens. These tokens encrypt sensitive payment information including credit card numbers and bank account information. These secure digital tokens remove the need for drivers to enter their sensitive financial information. Instead, all that is needed is a digital token that acts as a proxy on your behalf.
So just what are the benefits of these secure digital tokens? Well for starters, drivers no longer have to input their personal information or remember complex passwords or long card numbers in order to complete a purchase. Additionally, these tokens make it possible to pair multiple devices with your vehicle. This means that more than one authorized user can make payments via a fingerprint scan and you don’t have to worry about sharing your sensitive information in order to do so.
When will Mercedes Pay+ Roll Out?
Unsurprisingly, this new technology will begin rolling out in Mercedes-Benz’s home country, Germany. Then, the automaker will introduce this technology throughout Europe. Mercedes Pay+ will be available with fingertips sensors found on models including the EQS and EQE electric vehicles, and the S-Class, GLC-Class, and C-Class. While the payment service will likely be offered to US markets, no official announcement has been made regarding expanding into the US or other markets.
Currently, Mercedes Pay+ is available for drivers who wish to purchase different digital services including remote connectivity, hardware upgrades, and improved navigation features. Additionally, the automaker has plans to extend purchasing power to other car-related services including Mercedes parts and accessories and even fueling.
