The future of Genesis EV design could include elements from the X Speedium Coupe shown at a recent event in New York.
This event held an EV theme and took place at the Genesis House New York which is located in Manhattan’s Meatpacking District. We know some EVs are heading to market from this brand, but the X Speedium Coupe gives us a look ahead at future models that might become part of the market. Of course, with EVs as the theme, brand leaders made some interesting announcements at this event.
The X Speedium Coupe is a Progressive Concept
This luxury car brand uses a theme of Athletic Elegance in its design and offers a philosophy that gives the brand the cache desired. The name Speedium comes form a Korean racetrack, which offers the feeling this coupe might become the first EV performance vehicle from the brand. A “less is more” approach was applied to this concept car to allow the elegance, clean lines, and subtle curves to stand out without being interrupted by electronics and performance features that sometimes disrupt a vehicle’s design elements. This isn’t a conventional model, instead, it’s a concept that offers a look at what this brand can create.
The Front End Delivers Forward Movement
Genesis has announced its desire to become an all-electric brand by 20303. The goal is to offer six different models by that time, which allows for a relatively complete lineup of vehicles from a brand that has desired luxury qualities. The front of this new concept vehicle shows two line lamps that add to the shape of the crest in the grille. This means the front of this new car showcases a large but classy look for this brand. Designers have also incorporated the daytime running lamps with the low and high beams to offer a consistent lighting signature.
Lines Offer a Classic Feeling, Inspired by the Name
The location of the track for which the X Speedium Coupe is named, is located in the mountains of Korea. Therefore, its fitting this new concept model shows up with an emerald, green metallic paint that is called “Inje Green” to give us a look that feels like it came from this region of the country. There are curves and lines that allow this car to bring a sporty feeling with a classic style to the show. There’s no denying the beauty of this concept, but it probably won’t ever make it to the production line.
Priority is Set for U.S. Customers
The amazing growth of the Genesis brand in the United States has caused this brand to give our country a bit of priority for some vehicles. Through the new Priority One program this brand allows shoppers to enjoy a personalized experience when shopping for the new GV60. The GV60 is the first dedicated EV in the market and it’s already gained a huge amount of interest. For a $500 refundable deposit a concierge from this brand will match you with a qualified retailer to help with the purchase of this EV.
The purchase experience for the GV60 is tailored to you, making it much easier for you to buy the new GV60 how you want and when you want. The Priority One programs is currently available in California, Connecticut, New Jersey, and New York. This program should expand to many other states in the near future. At some point, the Priority One program might not be necessary, but its nice to have it available right now during the launch of this new EV.
A New SUV Made in the United States
More vehicles from foreign companies are made in the United States than ever before. The Genesis GV70 is one of those models. This new EV SUV will be the first vehicle produced by this brand at its Montgomery, AL manufacturing facility. Production is scheduled to begin in December of this year. This marks a bit of a historic occasion for the brand and for workers in the area. The North American market has become extremely important to this brand and this new facility and new vehicle mark a partnership that will hopefully last a long time.
Let’s Talk More About the GV60
While the X Speedium Coupe is interesting, it’s not a vehicle we expect to see on the roads any time soon, if ever at all. A more interesting vehicle to discuss is the new Genesis GV60. This new electric crossover arrives for the 2023 model year sharing a platform with a pair of impressive EVs. The current Hyundai EV platform is also used for the Hyundai Ioniq 5 and Kia EV6. Deliveries of this vehicle should begin later this year, offering the GV60 as a 2023 model.
How Much Power Will this EV Offer?
Three different powertrains should be offered for the GV60, although all three might not be available right away. The base model uses a single electric motor with a RWD layout to give you 225 horsepower of driving. Moving to the AWD dual-motor setup you’ll find 314 horsepower and a performance model should give you 429 horsepower. This top version offers a claimed acceleration to 60 mph of 4.0- seconds.
Driving range for the GV60 is certainly a conversational topic. The bae model offers 280 miles of driving, the AWD model should drive for 249 miles, and the performance model comes with 229 miles of driving. The reason for these range differences is the fact that all three versions use the same 77.4-kWh battery pack. If Genesis takes a page from other automakers, a higher-capacity battery pack could make a huge difference.
Will you Turn to this Brand for Your Next Ride?
The automotive world is quickly moving toward electric vehicles to offer the driving experience desired. By 2030, Genesis, along with other brands, will be a fully-electric brand. Will you buy a new model from this brand or are you sticking with your gasoline vehicle? Maybe you should sign up for the Priority One program and let this brand pamper you a little bit.
