Comparing the Ram 1500 and the Toyota Tundra

We’re not going for the most popular trucks in the market for comparison; we’re looking at the Ram 1500 vs. Toyota Tundra conversation.

Both of these trucks are impressive and offer advanced features that can make it easy for you to have the truck that will drive the way you want every day. Find the right truck and put it to work today.

Comparing the Base Models

At the base trim level of each of these trucks, you’ll have a few items to compare. The first is the price. The Ram can be had for just under $33,000, while the Toyota asks for a little more than $34,000. Things don’t get better for the Tundra as the fuel mileage comparison for the base models comes in at 23 city/33 hwy mpg for the Ram and 13 city/17 hwy mpg for the Toyota.

The Hits Keep on Coming

Another place where you’re going to find several differences between the Ram 1500 and Toyota Tundra can be found in the engine bay. All models of the Tundra use the same 5.7-liter V8 engine that makes 381 horsepower and 401 lb.-ft. of torque. This truck can tow up to 10,200 pounds and carry a payload that maximizes at 1,730 pounds. These numbers are respectable but might not be what you’re looking for.

If you look at the Ram 1500, you’ll notice that you have four different engines to choose from for the drive you want to make. These engines are:

• 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 making 305 horsepower and 269 lb.-ft. of torque

• 5.7-liter Hemi V8 making 395 horsepower and 410 lb.-ft. of torque

• 6.2-liter supercharged Hemi V8 making 702 horsepower and 650 lb.-ft. of torque

• 3.0-liter turbocharged diesel V6 offering 260 horsepower and 480 lb.-ft. of torque

With the right equipment, you can tow 12,750 pounds and carry up to 2,300 pounds in the Ram.

Which Truck has Better Ride Quality?

When you’re behind the wheel of the Ram, you’re going to enjoy a truck with energetic acceleration, excellent brakes, secure handling, and a highly responsive steering system. This truck is smooth and offers you the feeling you want, thanks to the coil-spring rear suspension and quiet cabin.

The Toyota truck has ample power but doesn’t have the handling and quality feeling you’ll admire when you’re driving the Ram. This truck feels, well, like a truck, while the Ram feels more like a vehicle you can drive every day.

Creature Features, Which Truck is Better?

Both of these trucks are capable of getting plenty of work done and giving you the power you’re looking for, but which one will you enjoy deriving more than the other? The Ram 1500 gives you a cabin that feels big, new, and comfortable. The Toyota Tundra offers you a large cabin that feels dated and difficult at times.

Infotainment

Looking at the Ram 1500 vs. Toyota Tundra conversation, the infotainment systems are much different from each other. The Ram offers an 8.4-inch touchscreen in base models with a 12-inch unit as the upgraded version for your infotainment. You’ll find several USB and USB-C ports in this truck to go along with the clear and crisp screen.

The Toyota has a fast and efficient infotainment screen with good graphics, but you don’t have an upgraded size to choose from. Both trucks offer you standard Apple CarPlay and Android Auto to give you the connection you’re looking for. You might not find a difference in the infotainment systems to be a deciding factor for you when it comes to the truck you want to drive.

Safety Tech, a Place the Tundra Stands Out

Toyota has done a masterful job of including safety features in every vehicle offered. The Tundra comes with automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, and lane-departure warning. These features can be had in the Ram 1500, but you have to move to higher trims instead of getting them on every trim like you would in the Toyota Tundra. This is the only place where the Toyota stands out ahead of the Ram.

The Verdict Becomes Clear

You can easily see from this writing that the Ram 1500 has many more truck qualities than the Toyota Tundra. That being said, the Tundra is a truck that has plenty of truck features and offers you the reliability that you expect in a Toyota, while the Ram is an FCA product. If you’re looking for the longest list of options and configurations, you’ll want to go with the Ram, but there’s nothing wrong with choosing the Toyota when you’re looking for a truck to drive.
