The Best Extended Vehicle Warranties

You might think that all vehicle warranties are the same, but that’s not the case, automakers have different warranty levels for you to enjoy.

When you’re looking to buy a new car, one of the first things that probably comes to mind is warranty coverage. It’s one of the best benefits of buying a new car. It gives you worry-free miles where almost anything that goes wrong is covered.  Different car makers offer different warranties.

Let’s compare and contrast some of the vehicle warranties from popular carmakers like Ford, Hyundai, Toyota, and a few others.

Ford Warranties

Ford offers three years or 36,000 miles of comprehensive warranty coverage as well as five years or 60,000 miles of powertrain warranty coverage. A comprehensive warranty means bumper to bumper coverage, while a powertrain warranty covers your engine, drivetrain, and transmission as well as other related parts.

Ford has a separate warranty plan for diesel engines that covers five years or 100,000 miles. Several extended service plans are available from Ford as well. These protect various components in your vehicle and can be bought at different levels of coverage. A Ford extended warranty can be transferred and include perks like rental vehicles and roadside assistance.

Hyundai Vehicle Warranties

Hyundai offers a comprehensive five years or 60,000-mile warranty as well as a 10-year or 100,000-mile powertrain warranty. As Hyundai’s coverage is so long, it only applies to the initial vehicle owner.

There are extras to Hyundai’s warranty coverage too, including five years of roadside assistance with no mileage limit and three years or 36,000 miles of free scheduled maintenance. Hyundai also has extended warranties for another 10 years or 100,000 miles that come in three different levels for different types of coverage. The highest one covers all your systems and the lowest one is just for the powertrain.

Toyota Warranties

Toyota has original basic warranty coverage of three years or 36,000 miles and a powertrain warranty of five years or 60,000 miles. The original warranty can be transferred to a new owner.

Extended warranty plans from Toyota come in three different levels. The basic plan is an extended powertrain warranty of six years or 100,000 miles. The next two levels of plans cover more vehicle systems and can be bought with a minimum of three years or 50,000 miles up to eight or ten years or 125,000 miles.

Mitsubishi Vehicle Warranties

Mitsubishi offers a comprehensive five-year or 60,000-mile warranty as well as a 10-year or 100,000-mile powertrain warranty. Like Hyundai, the extended powertrain warranty is not transferable. Five years of roadside assistance is also offered with no mileage limit. Mitsubishi has extended warranties that cover your vehicle for another two years or 40,000 miles beyond the original warranty.

Kia Warranties

Like Mitsubishi and Hyundai, Kia offers a comprehensive five years or 60,000-mile warranty as well as a 10-year or 100,000-mile powertrain warranty. The basic warranty is transferable to new owners. Roadside assistance is available for five years or 60,000 miles. Similar to Hyundai and Toyota, Kia offers levels of extended protection with the lowest being a powertrain-only warranty. All five levels of extended warranty are for 120,000 miles.

As you can see, extended warranties directly from car makers vary widely. These are also sometimes called vehicle service plans. If you’re buying a certified pre-owned vehicle, it’s a good idea to check with your dealership on what extended warranty coverage might be available.
