A Team Turns a Classic Fiat into a Modern Drive

Fiat offers us a variety of excellent small cars with a selection of powertrains and features that we can enjoy and admire on the road.

The small and active Fiat 500 is the perfect car to bring us the green technology of having an electric powertrain. As such, this car does give us a 500e model that has been able to offer us the quiet drive we want in a car that has the size and the efficiency that makes driving an electric car feel much cooler than it should.

A Different Electric Car

Fiat has been around for a long time, and some people like to look back and enjoy a classic looking and feeling the car that could be right for the drive and style we want. Unfortunately, when the 1966 fiat Giardinetta was offered on the market, the Fiat team didn’t build it with an electric powertrain at all. The team at Icon 4×4 partnered with Stealth EV to create a different version of this car to make it an electric model that carries in an old-school vibe that can be a lot of fun.

Making this Fiat an Electric

The teams worked together to create a car that’s now dubbed as the Fiat Giardinetta EV Derelict. They were able to keep the four-seat configuration and added six Tesla-sourced batteries with two up front and four in the rear. This keeps things balanced for the car to make it possible for this to be an impressive EV. The teams used an Orion battery management system and an AC35 motor. The suspension was improved with coilovers, a bigger panhard bar, and upgraded disc brakes. These items give us a car that has a classic appearance and the electric powertrain that we want to see and enjoy.

Getting to the Specs of this Special Model

This creation that came from these two teams is able to offer us some interesting specs for the drive. They claim the car is good for 80 horsepower and 100 lb.-ft. of torque while making use of a single-speed gearbox. This car offers the full torque level right away for the drive. The battery kit makes it possible for this car to offer 120 miles of range from a single charge with an estimate of reaching as much as 150 miles of range under some conditions.

What’s the Next Fiat to Receive this Treatment?

The team at Stealth EV has stated that this package of upgrades could be ordered as a kit and applied to many of the classic Fiat models of the past. They now have the CAD specs and the setup that could quickly be replicated to give us the car that we want to enjoy with an electric powertrain to give us the drive and the qualities we’re looking for when it’s time for a great drive. Will Fiat adopt this kit and offer it to customers or allow Stealth EV to create a new 500e for the market? Only time will tell, but this creation is pretty cool.
