What they brought is called the Honda E Prototype, but it appears to be ready to head to the market for us to enjoy the drive.
The cute car that captured our imagination a couple of years ago was the Honda Urban EV concept. This new model showed up in Frankfurt to give us a look at what Honda could do, but it was a little more than what you might expect a production vehicle to be. Recently the Honda team took the newest version of this car to Geneva to let us see what they have in mind for the production release of their first EV.
It’s a Preview for Honda
The Honda team informed us that the E Prototype is a model that previews a production model that has evolved from the 2017 concept car. This new version looks more like what we expect a production model of the Honda Urban EV to be as it gets ready to drive on the road. The E Prototype has realistic proportions that find a way to capture the charm of the concept model with a simple and smooth style that makes it a car that can be great to drive.
A Modern Retro from Honda
One of the most attractive aspects of the Urban EV concept was the fact that it’s a car that brings in a retro style and personality to the market. Even so, this new car is going to be a completely modern vehicle for the drive. This will be the first compact vehicle built on a dedicated EV platform and it will offer a single-motor rear-drive layout that shows the wheels pushed to the corners to give this little car a larger and more competent footprint when it drives on the road. While we don’t have any of the specs yet, this car is expected to be able to drive for up to 124 miles on a single charge.
Going Inside for the Ride
What we expect to see when the Honda E arrives on the market is a dashboard that offers you the high-tech features and a minimalistic appearance to give you clean lines and a style that looks great. There should be a dual-screen display that has video monitors that are connected to the external rearview cameras that offer the appearance we want of the outside of the vehicle. This electric powertrain also allows the interior to offer a completely flat floor for you to have more cabin space to enjoy.
Vintage Meets Modern in this Honda
It’s easy to admire the vintage feeling and the style of the new Honda E Prototype that showed up in Geneva to give us an idea of what Honda will offer when this new EV arrives on the market. The production of this car is set to begin later this year, which means it will be part of the 2020 model year. We should be able to learn more about the specs and the pricing of this new EV as we get much closer to its release date.
