January 2019 will be the last time motor enthusiasts brave winter temperatures for the Detroit Auto Show, let’s review some highlights.
From now on it will take place in June and at a different venue. Interest in traditional auto shows is declining and automakers have been exploring alternative ways of introducing their products. But despite news of upcoming changes and a smaller turnout, there were impressive shiny machines to admire in the Motor City. The theme this year was all about power and performance. Here are some of the hottest rides that automakers are planning to release in 2019.
2020 Toyota Supra
The car that stole the show this year was the new Toyota Supra, making a comeback after a 17-year hiatus. Akio Toyoda, Toyota’s president, was at the show to introduce this legendary car that debuted in the U.S. in 1979. It shares similar traits with BMW’s Z4 roadster and was a co-production with BMW. It’s not available with a manual transmission only with 8-speed automatic transmission. It has BMWinfluence but is Toyota tested!
The 2020 Supra goes on sale this spring starting at around $50,000.
2020 Ford Mustang Shelby GT 500
This is one of the most powerful Mustangs ever produced with more than 700 horsepower and was the first official vehicle unveiling of the show. The iconic star of the film Gone in Sixty Seconds impressive all around –it’s got looks power and style. It comes with automatic transmission but if there’s enough of a demand, it’s rumored that Ford may be open to offering a manual gearbox.
2020 Cadillac XT6
This large, well-equipped, three-row luxury crossover, is powerful and packed with extra goodies. Front-wheel drive and a 310-horsepower V6 engine come as standard, and you can get an all-wheel-drive for an extra cost. Pricing will start at around $50,000.
2020 RAM HD
Winner of this year’s Truck of The Year Award, this heavy-duty 3500 pick-up truck, diesel engine puts out 1000 pound-feet of torque and can tow over 31,000 pounds. It’s strong and impressive on the outside and refined on the inside.
2020 Ford Explorer
The new Explorer is completely redesigned. The three-row SUV looks about the same size on the outside but has more interior space, more tech toys, and extra safety features. And this edition has 400 horsepower and comes with 10-speed automatic transmission. The fully updated Explorer will go on sale this summer.
2020 Kia Telluride
This three-row utility will be the largest vehicle in Kia’s lineup, capable of seating 8 passengers. With a 3.8liter V6 engine producing 291 horsepower, it has power, style, and luxury, with the capacity to tow up to 5,000 pounds. And since it’s aimed at families, it offers enough extra USB ports and cupholders to keep everyone happy.
