Inexpensive Ways to Save You from Expensive Repairs

One of the worst feelings you’ll have is getting a large repair bill that could have been prevented. Our vehicles are machines that will eventually wear out, but we want them to last forever and expect them to be ready to ride on a daily basis. There are ways to make sure you don’t have to deal with expensive repairs, at least not right away as long as you perform some preventive maintenance on your vehicle to ensure your systems continue to work the way they’re supposed to for much longer than they have already.

Battery Trickle Charger – If you don’t drive one of your vehicles on a regular basis you need to have a trickle charger. In order for your electronics to continue to operate they are always pulling a charge from your battery but if your battery get low because you drive infrequently and only for short drives you need this charger. You plug the trickle charger into the wall outlet in your garage and hook it up to your battery and it will keep your battery charged for you between uses of the vehicle. This is perfect for that infrequently driven model you own.

Cabin Air Filter – Your cabin air filter needs to be changed at least once a year. This is a small filter that can get clogged up with dirt, dust, pollen and even mold easily. If you don’t change this item at least once a year you may have to deal with costly repairs to your air conditioning system. Your windshield defogger won’t even operate right if this filter is clogged up. Changing this item will cost you a short amount of time and cost about $30 at the most, which is a lot better than changing air conditioning components on your ride.

Change Your Spark PlugsThis used to be a requirement whenever you did a tune up on your vehicle, but as spark plugs and other components have gotten better we don’t need to change these as much as before. You still need to change them in order to avoid your engine overheating, failure of the engine if one fails to fire and other problems. You want your vehicle to ride right and perform for you and these inexpensive little items can help you make sure your vehicle continues to work great for you.

Use a Code Reader – This is a great item to tell you what’s wrong with your vehicle if a warning light comes on. It will cost you as little as $30 and you can have it connected to your smartphone. This way you know what’s wrong with your vehicle before you take it in for service and if you happen to buy a used car from anyone you can attach your code reader and know if the vehicle is worth what you’re going to pay or has several problems that need to be fixed. This small device is a big help when it comes to keeping your ride on the road.
