It’s not often we can see a car that is redesigned after only two years on the market, but the X1 for 2016 is just that vehicle. While it’s not a car but an SUV, it’s an active small rear- drive crossover that allows you to have good power and a fantastic suspension for the drive to be amazing. In an effort to embrace the turbocharged powertrains of today the four and six-cylinder engines of before are being dropped from the lineup in favor of only one powertrain to be the right choice for the X1.
This new powertrain will feature a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that is put in the new xDrive28i. What this will give you for driving the X1 is 228 horsepower and 258 lb.-ft. of torque which is a little less than before, but also be more fuel efficient. This engine is mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission which is the part of the powertrain that carries over from the previous version. Even though we see less power the X1 will be good for a run to sixty mph in only 6.3 seconds while bringing in a top speed of 130 mph.
With less power shouldn’t the vehicle get smaller? Not at all, in fact the new model is an inch and a half taller than the model from last year giving you a higher seating position which allows for much better visibility while driving. The rear seats are a full 2.5 inches higher than the last one to make it easier for the passengers in the back seat to be able to see more easily than before everywhere around the vehicle. Of course you also get more legroom than before with 1.5 inches more for the base model and 2.6 inches for the adjustable second row model. The front seats are buckets for the comfort and sport and the rear is a 40/20/40 spilt rear bench for the versatility you need.
On the outside the X1 now has a larger split kidney grill design and the interior offer more choices for the trim. In the center console there is a 6.5-inch center console screen that can be upgraded to an 8.8-inch display. You can enjoy the seven-speaker audio system that can be increased to a twelve-speaker 360-watt Harmon-Kardon sound system. With these improvements you have a new X1 that is even better for enjoying the ride from the inside of the vehicle.
The size of the X1, although it’s been increased, is still small enough to be an easy to maneuver vehicle for you to be able to drive and park easily. Riding on eighteen-inch wheels and a fully independent suspension this is a vehicle that will give you a smooth ride but one that is sporty and compliant to allow you the fun of finding the roads that are the most adventurous. This new model should give you a similar price to before to be a wonderful and affordable small luxury SUV to drive.
