New Tech, New Looks, a New Drive Mode, and More
While the 2025 Ford Explorer lineup is a little smaller than it used to be, drivers will love what they find in the remaining models. The automaker has made many changes, from an improved infotainment system to the newly available BlueCruise hands-free driving system.
Some Things Don’t Need to Be Changed
To be clear, the new Ford Explorer is receiving a mid-cycle refresh, not a total overhaul. For most SUV lovers, that’s good news. Ford’s mid-size SUV already has much going for it in terms of platform, powertrain, and other essentials.
The 2025 Explorer will feature a base-level 2.3L 4-cyl engine or an upgraded 3.0L V6 good for 300 to 400 hp. Its towing capacity will remain at 5,000 lbs, and the mid-size SUV will retain its 10-speed automatic transmission.
Expect a Simplified Explorer Lineup
Ford has made the Explorer lineup less complex for 2025. The company believes, and most experts would agree, that the smaller lineup will improve quality and reduce unnecessary resource use.
The 2024 Ford Explorer features eight trim levels. For 2025, that gets pared down to four. The entry-level Active, the ST-Line, the Platinum, and the line-topping ST.
There’s no need to mourn the off-road-oriented Timberline model. According to Car and Driver, a Ford spokesperson confirmed that the company is developing what should be the “most off-road-capable Explorer” yet. Details will be revealed later in 2024.
Find A New Look for All Trim Levels
All trim levels get a facelift for 2025. The new Explorer lineup features larger grills, improved headlights, and new front bumpers. However, each has a distinct grill intended to make the four trim levels more distinct.
Ford also revised the taillights for the 2025 models. A horizontal element now connects them with a partially illuminated “Explorer” script. Drivers can also choose from newly available wheel designs and paint options.
Every Ford Explorer Gets a Host of New Tech Features
If there’s one thing that stands out about the 2025 Ford Explorer’s interior, it’s the dashboard. Ford has added a 12.3-inch fully digital gauge cluster plus a 13.2-inch touchscreen. Drivers and passengers alike will also appreciate the new dual wireless charging pads.
The new Explorer lineup also gets access to Google Voice Assistant and apps from the Play Store to sweeten the deal. When parked, the vehicle can even stream YouTube and Amazon Prime videos. Supposedly, Google Chrome will be the next upgrade.
The tech upgrades aren’t all about infotainment and gauges, either. Now, customers can take advantage of the BlueCruise hands-free driving system, available on all but the entry-level Active trim. Just keep in mind that BlueCruise requires either a monthly or annual plan.
