Whenever we have an auto show, one of the most important aspects of what we find on display is a number of excellent concept models. Because the Frankfurt Motor Show only comes around every other year this German home field advantage location is where many of the brands we admire with the engineering we love are shown off in their first concept form. This show brought us a look at what could be the way the market will be improved in the next few years with concepts that will eventually turn into production models.
BMW X7 iPerformance Concept –As the preview for what will be the new full-size SUV offered from this brand with its three rows of seats, this beauty showed up with looks and features we’ve never expected. The twin kidney grill up front looks massive and almost truck like and some of the lighting and lines give this impressive SUV a feeling of dominance as you walk around and check out what this beauty has in store. The interior is full of more treats for your comfort and viewing pleasure.
Mini Electric Concept –This car is expected to begin production in 2019 and is one that has debuted a bit before coming to Frankfurt. With a futuristic look and the dynamic electric qualities desired, this MIN will be one that can carry the brand forward and be the right choice for those of us looking for a car that has the qualities we want and the emissions level offered with an EV. As we come closer to the production date, information should begin to surface regarding the powertrain.
Kia Proceed Concept –It’s a wagon but it looks like so much more. The smooth and sophisticated styling of this impressive concept car makes it a sleek and swept version with a long and low roofline and a look that we want to enjoy on the road. This car could be the next generation of the Cee’d in the European market and will hopefully find its way to the US as well. Never have we seen a wagon that looks to attractive right from the start. Looking for a Kia model you can drive now? Opt for the Kia Niro.
Smart Vision EQ Fortwo –This is a concept we might not see head to production soon because it relies on the ability for the car to operate autonomously, but it does give us a look at what Smart has in mind. This little car has an open view concept and massive screens to show you what you want during the drive as the car that could be the mobility choice for the drive desired on the roads around you when you want to share a ride or hail the mobility vehicle to get you where you need to go.
Mercedes-Benz Concept EQA –As the small and impressive EV model that is expected to provide the driving experience needed on the road this is a concept that needs to head to production today. This car uses a 60 kWh lithium-ion battery pack and offers as much as 250 miles of distance in a car that’s going to find in at the bottom of the model lineup from this brand. This car has plenty of power to give you a quick drive and certainly appears to be a futuristic concept.
MINI John Cooper Works GP Concept –The inspiration for this concept comes from the Monte Carlo Rally car that was victorious in the past. This is a car that offers two bucket seats with five point harnesses, a roll cage and only a little more to make this an excellent concept model. There wasn’t any powertrain or production information for this car yet, but it did roll to the stage on 19-inch wheels to show off the upgraded style we want to have when it comes to the market.
Audi Aicon –If EV models are the wave of the future, and they certainly seem to be, then this Aicon is the model that will offer us more of what we want to have on the road for the drive desired. This new vehicle is expected to be a fully autonomous EV that can drive up to 500 miles and ride on massive 26-inch wheels. As the longest range we’ve seen in an EV we can hope this concept will be offered as a production model sooner rather than later.
Honda Urban EV Concept –This is easily the most interesting cute model that was brought to the show. Honda already plans to put this little car into production in 2019 and let it become the EV model that we’ll love to drive on the road and be able to share a message with other drivers from the front message board in the car. As a car that’s a bit of a throwback with its style and bench seats this is a Honda that will be fun once it arrives.
