Whenever an automaker presents us with a new and exciting model we expect them to be able to make good on all they are offering on stage. Because of this, experienced CEOs have learned not to promise more than they know for sure will be included with a vehicle. Because Elon Musk is a bit of a new car company CEO he may have bit off more than he could chew when he promised to have specific features on the Tesla Model 3, but now that he has it seems like a seesaw effect for us to learn what will actually be included on the Model 3.
We have already been introduced to the Ludicrous Mode which has been part of the fun of driving the Model S P90D, but that is a car which is more expensive and does not fit into the budget of those who will drive the Model 3. At the reveal for the Model 3 Elon Musk boldly informed us that even though this car will only cost owners $35,000 it will also have a swift acceleration which will be similar to the Ludicrous Mode which is part of the Model S. In fact Musk told us that the Model 3 will have an acceleration that will allow the car to reach sixty mph in less than six seconds.
Since this reveal we’ve heard news of Tesla working to make the Model 3 more affordable and learn how to make parts that will easily fit across the platforms. With this news it seems we might have said goodbye to the idea of the Ludicrous Mode being put in the Model 3, but the reality is this specialized batter pack can actually be made for the Model 3 the same way it’s made for the Model S, so the Ludicrous Mode will actually be part of the plan for this car.
While we are still waiting to see evidence Tesla will be able to reach the production goals they set for themselves of 500,000 models per year by 2018 which seems extremely aggressive considering its less than two years away and Tesla has never even come to the 100,000 models per year mark. With this and the making of the Model 3 into an affordable Tesla model this is one car company that has a ton of challenges ahead of itself, including making good on the promise to make the Model 3 a performance model as well as one we can enjoy at a great price.
Currently Tesla is working on a new power inverter for the Model 3 to make it as efficient as possible. With this new inverter in place the Model 3 could have a greater range than the Model S. It will still be a while before we know exactly what the Model 3 will include but when it does make its way to being delivered to those who are waiting for the car to be ready for them it will be one amazing vehicle for the price.
