For 100 years we have enjoyed the driving capability and spectacular German engineering that is BMW. This company has given us what is to be considered the best driving car in the world along with many athletic and active vehicles that may share similar style across the entire lineup along with a singular goal in mind; to give us as drivers the best experience we can find from behind the wheel. As with any company that is enjoying a full century in production BMW has looked for a way to celebrate and look forward to the future, which it has found in the new Vision Next 100 Concept rolled out recently.
Everything about this new concept is made to be futuristic. From the digital intelligence and intuitive driver functions to the futuristic materials and even the fact that this car is to be an intelligent drive partner to us on the road. This concept just may be what we see in the next five or ten years from BMW as it comes in with the equipment we want from a company that will support its stance in many ways on the road and at the shows.
Because a physical presence is easier for us to connect to this concept has a gem in the dash that represents the digital intelligence companion. This companion is part of the Boost mode of the car and is able to learn your driving habits and tailor the settings of the car to them so you can enjoy a drive even more. The other driving setting is the Ease mode which allows the Next 100 to autonomously drive the car for you while you sit back and relax. This is a fantastic blend of self-driving and the ability to enjoy a drive of your own.
The Next 100 Concept does have a system aboard that seems to be a bit beyond current comprehension. This system is called the “Alive Geometry” and is made up of 800 moving triangles that are set into the instrument panel to give signals to the driver of a predicted real time event. These triangles move as one and are a form of preconscious communication between the car and the drive to aid in a safer drive and the avoidance of a collision or an area where the road conditions are less than ideal for driving.
Even though the alive geometry system is still a distant idea the Next 100 does feature organic LEDs. These are displays that are actually able to change shape which BMW states may lead to the entire windshield of a car being noting more than a screen at some point in the future. This is a car that was built out of recycled fabrics, carbon fiber and residue from the carbon fiber production to be a car that is environmentally friendly as well as superiorly advanced. The Next 100 Concept shows us a grand picture of what the automotive world could be like in the future and what BMW hopes to achieve as they start their second century in business.
