Have you heard of the new Cadillac CT6? This is a new large sedan from Cadillac that offers those of us who have enjoyed the large sedans of old a big car that should be the top of the lineup, the halo car, the flagship sedan. While it seems Cadillac has deemed calling this car a flagship as akin to cursing, this car is an all new high class luxury sedan that will be the first of eight new vehicles that will be part of the Cadillac lineup between now and 2020 to give us a full model line.
Cadillac outdid themselves with this car as they created a car that offers aluminum intensive structures and body panels that bring in nearly a 200 pound savings over a similar build from a steel construction. With a length of 204 inches and a 122.4 inch wheelbase this is a large car, but it actually weighs nearly the same as the midsized CTS which allows the CT6 to offer better performance. This performance comes in the form of a highly developed suspension system and the ability to get more from the powertrains than if the car weighted more.
Even though this is a large car, the base engine works just fine for it. This base engine is a 2.0-liter turbocharged and direct injected four-cylinder engine that offers 256 horsepower. Of course you can move up to a 3.6-liter V6 and receive 335 horsepower or head all the way to the top to enjoy a 3.0-liter twin turbocharged V6 that offers you 400 horsepower and 400 lb.-ft. of torque. Even though you get engine choices the only transmission used is an eight-speed automatic which is perfect for the smooth and controlled ride you expect to have in a large sedan with one of the best suspension systems on the market today.
When you sit inside the CT6 you will know what high class luxury is all about and only have one question “How can this not be the flagship model?” This is a question that comes when you see the amazing carbon fiber, wood and metal trims along with the leather upholstery that covers the soft surfaces throughout the cabin. Look to the dashboard and you see the massive 10.2-inch CUE infotainment system that has all the controls you could imagine.
This is car that gives you quad zone automatic climate controls, wireless phone charging, massaging front seats, reclining rear seats and a 34-speaker Bose Panaray premium audio system and a rear seat entertainment system with two ten-inch screens.
Even with all this included Cadillac claims this car is not the flagship sedan and the flagship is on its way. It’s hard to believe Cadillac plans to have models that are higher on the lineup than the CT6, but this also means we have some awesome cars to look forward to. Until we have the next models that will help to shape this lineup we can enjoy just how much of an amazing land yacht the CT6 is; just don’t call it the flagship.
