The Volkswagen Group is comprised of twelve brands that give us some of the most impressive luxury cars on the market. Because both Porsche and Bentley are part of the group, and as we have seen with other brand pairings, they can be highly successful together by sharing technology and features. The Bentley lineup is expected to be expanded with two new cars and even a new SUV based on the new platform that will also make its debut in the new Porsche 928.
What we have seen from Bentley to give us the idea that a new sports car would be coming came into fruition with the concept we saw earlier in the form of the EXP 10 Speed 6. Even though production of the new models has not yet been approved the expectation is the production will begin when the model is ready which hopefully will be very soon. This MSB design will not only be made for the Bentley vehicles and the 928 from Porsche, but it will be the design basis of the second generation of the Porsche Panamera.
What will Bentley be able to get out of the EXP 10 build? It appears this will be the foundation for the entire lineup, we might be about to witness changes with Bentley that are similar to what Cadillac went through to bring us the models we see now. The MSB will be featured in the Continental GT, the Spur and the new EXP 10 sports car that will expand the lineup. As for the SUV that will carry the MSB platform under its structure, Bentley has no name for this new SUV as of yet but it seems they have every intention of getting what they can from this exciting new basis for their lineup.
Although Bentley will share this part of the build with Porsche, the styling, interior fittings and powertrains will all be unique to help keep some separation between the two highly regarded names in the automotive industry. This will give us a set of cars that perform like the sports car brand of Porsche and offer us the style and features we look forward to in a Bentley. There is no doubt this new build and design will give Bentley a leg up against direct competition which comes in the form of the offerings from Alfa Romeo and Aston Martin just to name a couple.
Another consideration being made by Bentley is the use of electric powertrains. Although they are researching several different zero emissions offerings the goal before bringing a Bentley to market that is an EV model is to have 310 miles of range and a charging time to full of less than twenty minutes. This will allow the Bentley to be useful and not interrupt the day of the owner as much as others.
As you can see we have a lot to look forward to from Bentley in the future. The MSB platform from Bentley certainly will give us a design and feel that will be more akin to the dynamics we want from cars that are featured in this echelon of the automotive world.
