Pickups offer an interesting segment of the automotive world. In the US this segment can be the top seller for a manufacturer and cause so many to continue to try and outdo the others. Most truck buyers stick with a particular brand once they have the brand they know they can and will trust for a longer time. Each year we see the lineups offering more technology, better features and more active equipment to be the right choices for driving on and off the road. The beauty of a pickup truck is it’s made for the long haul and for the hard haul to give you a great working performance for a long time.
Keeping the purpose in mind, here is how the full size pickup trucks rank when stacked up against each other:
Unranked – Nissan Titan
The Titan did not make the list for this year because it’s going to be all new for 2016. When this new Titan comes out we will get to see exactly what it will be all about. The new one will be the first Titan to offer the Cummins turbo-diesel V8 engine that will give you a full 310 horsepower, which doesn’t sound like much, but the 555 lb.-ft. of torque certainly will make you proud to own the Titan.
Unranked – Ford F-150 Raptor
This is the performance-laden version of the F-150 and is a lot like giving the truck steroids. The reason this truck is unranked is the disappearing act it performed for 2015 and 2016. While it will reappear in 2017 as the Raptor the last time it was made was in 2014. When it does reappear you can be certain this will be the king of the mountain of trucks, certainly Ford won’t have it any other way.
Fifth – Toyota Tundra
The Tundra gained a new look in 2014 to give us a bit of a more attractive body style and more aggressive look. With two different V8 engines to choose from the Tundra is a lot like other trucks now in that you can enjoy a myriad of different setups and have the right truck for you and your driving. Adding the TRD Off Road Package does not increase the price significantly and makes for a great truck to own and know you can head off road in a way that will make it easier for you to enjoy the adventures you will find in other places.
Fourth – Ram 1500
This beauty among the beasts continues to wear the semi-truck appearing front end that gives it a great look. Powered by a great V6 or a strong V8 this truck is the epitome of efficiency to give you a truck you don’t mind driving each and every day. You can still get a two-door version of this truck or opt for some variations that make for a way to bring the whole crew to the jobsite and get started on the workday while heading home in the comfort this truck’s interior offers you to enjoy.
Third – GMC Sierra 1500
The Sierra was also updated for 2014 and carried those updates over to 2015. As a twin with the Silverado the Sierra steps up the basic features to give you more for your money. The stronger 4.3-liter V6 is a fuel efficient and admired engine that can give you the power you want and 24 mpg on the highway. Of course you can move up to the 5.3 or 6.2-liter V8 engines if you need more power, which many who use these gorgeous trucks for working typically opt for. Inside this is one of the most luxurious trucks around, especially in the Denali trim.
Second – Chevrolet Silverado 1500
What makes the Silverado edge out the Sierra, the basic roots this truck sticks to. As you might want a truck that just does truck things so well, this is the choice you will want to have by your side. The bow tie truck has been the choice so many make for the simpler things but if you really need to have the high class luxury you can enjoy the High Country trim and get every feasible option for this truck and have the perfect amount of great driving from an awesome truck.
First – Ford F-150
This certainly should come as no surprise. Not only is the F-150 the best-selling truck in America it is the most versatile. You can practically build this truck from the ground up with the ten or more set ups available to give you the right equipment for any job or for just driving down the road. You can see this Ford riding everywhere you go and with good reason, this is the best truck on the market today. Adding the aluminum body recently took this truck well beyond the others as it can now make better use of the awesome power of the engine.
With all the full size truck rated it will be interesting to see where this goes once the Titan is part of the conversation. The Raptor might not be, it may have to be included with the specialized models that each truck has to offer, but it still will probably take top honors in that category. Which truck is right for you? Give them all a try and see which one is the right fit for you to enjoy a great drive and have the power you want from under the hood, giving you the truck that will be your brand for several years to come.
