Do We Want More from the Fiat 500?

10.27.16 - 2016 Fiat 500

Fiat has made a move we don’t see very often and they’ve chosen to make this change on the new Fiat 500 lineup. For those of us looking for a new 500 model of our own this is a change that will make a huge difference and allow us to enjoy some great new features on the car at better prices. What we see for the new 500 lineup is a set of prices that have been reduced to make it much easier for us to purchase this little Italian car that offers the great fuel mileage and performance we want to enjoy.

Through the first half of this year the sales of the 500 are down nearly 50 percent. That’s a telling statistic that should have FCA worried about its namesake hatchback lineup, but there could be some explanation to this drop in sales. Fiat introduced a new 500X last year which could be why we see this reduction in sales. The 500X isn’t in the same lineup as the 500; it’s an entirely separate model that qualifies as a small crossover SUV to be a Fiat model that can head on the trails and backroads with confidence.

How much are these prices being reduced? The base model, the Pop, is being priced to start with at $15,990 which is a full $2,000 less than it was last year. Even though the Pop is less expensive than before there are additions to the car for 2017 that give you a 7.0-inch digital gauge cluster, 15-inch aluminum alloy wheels and chrome exterior trim. Because the 500 lineup has deleted the Easy model the Pop can now be purchased with a navigation system, a power sunroof and Beats premium audio system. There is also a new Sport Appearance package that replaces the 500 Sport model to give us more options on the Pop model.

Moving up to the next model the Lounge receives a reduction in price as well. The price of this trim is now $19,390 to start with which is also a drop of $2,000 from the price that was in place for last year. This trim adds a new set of wheels and the car comes with fog lamps, a fixed glass roof panel, automatic climate control and leather upholstery. Even the Abarth model at the top of the lineup has been reduced by a full $2,580 to bring the starting price down to $20,990.

Of course if you want to have the open air feeling of the convertible 500, the 500C is still offered on every trim but this adds $1,495 to the price. Because this doesn’t even reach the reduced price of these vehicles you can now have a 500C in any trim for less than it was last year. If you’re looking for a great little hatchback that’s more affordable than ever, the 500 lineup is a great way to find what you want and enjoy the fun of driving a small hatchback on the road.
