Tesla is Still Working on Doors

06.30.16 - 2016 Tesla Model X

The Model X has been nothing short of a nightmare for Tesla CEO Elon Musk. He has put his office and a sleeping bag in an area just beyond the production line of the Model X, he has personally answered and responded to many of the complaints for this vehicle that have come in and he has continued to be the person who we look to lay the blame on for anything that doesn’t seem to work correctly. While Elon Musk relieved at least two of the leaders of this project and the company rushed the Model X through production when they were already 18 months late in promised deliveries, it seems there might be some light at the end of the tunnel soon.

In a recent announcement Tesla has had to apologized once again for the way the Model X is. This SUV is overly complicated and uses systems that seem to be over the top and carry far too much new technology to be a good blend. The Falcon Wing doors have been the biggest and most consistent complaint as they haven’t worked properly from the start which has been the biggest source of the headaches felt throughout Tesla.

Elon Musk recently informed us there is to be another over the air update for the Model X that will improve the way the doors work. He went on to say that the software has been difficult to refine and he feels the company is close to making the doors useful for all owners. There will actually be two software updates that will be released, the first one in a few days and another in a month or so which will finally give owners a vehicle that has doors that work properly; or so he hopes.

It seems the delivery of the Model X should have been delayed even farther and to deliver them without the proper software was nothing short of hubris and should be considered an insult to owners. With the asking price of well over $100,000 the Model X wasn’t a cheap sedan that was meant for fuel mileage, this vehicle was to be the most advanced luxury SUV on the market today and what customers received instead was a technological nightmare. No wonder Musk has had to spend all his time at the end of the Model X production line taking phone calls for vehicles that should have never left his plant.

Recently there was another software update that was delivered for the Model X. This update changed the way the Summon feature works, allows the touch screen to move the center seats and allowed all the doors to be closed with the push of just one button. Hopefully, and in the spirit of wanting to be able to move on and eventually see what the new Model 3 will be, Tesla will finally get the software for the Model X right so customers can be proud of their investment and the company can focus on their new project.
