Holden, GM and HSV; Together Awesomeness is Made

Holden GM and HSV

Holden is the producer of the Commodore and the Chevrolet SS both of which are gorgeous high powered sedans that give you a lot more than you would expect from a family vehicle.  I have often spoken highly of the SS and shared my wished that Holden would not close shop in 2017 but would instead be allowed to continue bringing us the SS which is a wolf in sheep’s clothing.  HSV is the tuner for Holden cars and takes their line of vehicles to become performance based versions of their former selves for us to enjoy.

The new range of HSV changes called the Gen-F2 creates upgraded looks and chassis changes in order to not only make the vehicles much better in performance but with the partnership with GM we now get to see cars put out by HSV putting GM power inside.  This GM power comes in the form of the amazing 6.2-liter supercharged LSA V8 which will now be shown in more models that are going to be dubbed the GTS lineup.  Now that we see this powerful engine heading into the lineup of vehicles what exactly will this mean for the HSV models.

With these Holden models using this engine the GTS will still offer the massive 580 horsepower rating that is found in the Chevrolet Camaro ZL1.  For the other products the engine will offer an output of 536 horsepower in the ClubSPort R8 sedan and wagon, the Maloo R8 SUV and the Senator Signature sedan.

While these models will use the LSA V8 there are still some HSV offerings that will continue to use the 6.2-iter LS3 V8 that comes in with a more mild 455 horsepower.  These models still show off with massive power and exciting features that make them some of the most highly powerful and engaging rides to ever carry the Holden name.

The transmissions that are found inside the HSV vehicles include the six-speed manual and automatic transmissions.   These trannys should make the shifts and changes of the vehicles more active and direct to make full use of the amazing horsepower found under the hood.

Other changes to these cars are a bit more difficult to see and understand.  The bumpers, side skirts and hood have been updated.  The wheel patterns are a bit different and there are even more colors to be enjoyed.  These visual effects are not as noticeable but certainly important to the overall lineup.

The LSA models will gain unique badging and a sportier suspension.  This new suspension is made to offer stiffer springs and damper settings that will help reduce the possibility of body roll which certainly is important in the SUV models.

The question that may come to mind is what HSV will do once Holden closes up shop in 2017 and they have not actually announced any plans for that time and beyond as of yet.  They may have to start tuning the less powerful and front-wheel drive versions of the Commodore, which will certainly present them with a variety of challenges from what they have now.
