Improving the Hospital Experience for Youngsters

03.09.17 - Rolls-Royce SRH

As a parent one of the most frightening events in your life can be if and when your child needs to have surgery. A broken bone here or there is to be expected, a piece of sponge stuck in the ear or nose happens regularly, but surgery that means an organ is being replaced can be one of the most frightening and unsure times of your life. The difficulty with this type of surgery is the unknown that you face with your family to be able to know your child is going to live through the procedure.

For your child, the news they have to endure surgery and will be in a lot of pain afterwards can be absolutely devastating. Kids are supposed to be resilient and bounce back quickly, but that’s not always the case. As the parent, it’s up to you to make your child feel more comfortable, more confident and have less stress during the process. Putting on that brave face before your child has to be cut open can be nearly impossible for some parents, and children often take their emotional cues from us, which means added stress and frustration for them as well.

Many children’s hospitals around the world have various ways to help your child take their mind off what’s about to happen to them. These hospitals are typically painted in bright colors or have different entertainment visitors that just want to brighten the day. The idea of taking the mind off the surgery, even for a few minutes can help a child feel less stressed about the surgery and depending upon the activities offered, can even help parents take their mind off the surgery as well. This is certainly the goal with what one car company has done for a nearby hospital.

Rolls-Royce has created a way to help children have a huge smile on their face before the surgery has to take place. This company has created a vehicle that can be driven around the hospital by the child as they head toward the surgery room for the operation. This new little car is the Rolls-Royce SRH and its been built and crated by the team at Rolls-Rose Bespoke to be a great way for kids to have a little fun before they go under the knife. The goal is also to relieve some of the stress kids can feel before surgery as well.

The SRH offers a two-toned paint scheme with Andalusian White and Salamanca Blue being the colors. This is finished with a St. James Red coachline. Inside the steering wheel is two-toned as well and the entire vehicle looks like it matches perfectly with some of the impressive models that Rolls-Royce builds. This small car was crafted for the St. Richard’s Hospital Pediatric Day Surgery Unit. It took the team over 400 hours of their own time to develop and build this small Rolls-Royce vehicle that kids can drive around the hospital just before their surgery.

As an amazing way to give back to this hospital that has been treating young people for many years, Rolls-Royce is happy to give the SRH to this team. This little car has a top speed of 10 mph, but its better being set to 4 mph for the hallways. It’s powered by a 24-volt gel battery and is certainly a way for kids to arrive at the surgery room in style. There’s even a miniature version of the Spirit of Ecstasy hood ornament on the front of the car to give it the most authentic look and feel possible.
