Low End Power from the Jeep Grand Cherokee Ecodiesel

2016 Jeep Grand Cherokee

As one of the larger crossover SUVs on the market the Grand Cherokee is not considered to be an efficient model when it comes to fuel mileage  but has been a top seller for many years because of its power, size, capability and versatility.  Although 21 mpg in the city and 28 on the highway doesn’t sound like much, when it comes to the Jeep Grand Cherokee this is an impressive number that you can find on the EcoDiesel model that is built to be a fantastic SUV for you to enjoy and be able to drive daily without being too concerned about the fuel costs.

Not only will you find good fuel mileage from this SUV but when it’s powered by this engine you also receive the 240 horsepower (not much compared to the other engines in the lineup) and 420 lb.-ft. of torque, which is where this diesel engine really performs.  Why would you want a diesel power plant?  When you need to have the low end power in order to make it through the mud and muck this is a great choice, it’s also better for hauling and towing to ensure you can turn your Grand Cherokee into a workhorse.

To give you a comparison the base engine which is the Pentastar V6 shows up with 290 horsepower  while the 5.7-liter Hemi V9 gives you 360 horsepower and 390 lb.-ft. of torque, while heading to the top model, the SRT, you can have the 6.2-liter SRT V8 but this is the only way you will have more torque than the Ecodiesel.  All engines are attached to a smooth shifting eight-speed automatic transmission to allow you to enjoy the ride and have the performance you want from this longstanding SUV that can go anywhere and do nearly anything.

The towing capacity and setup of the Ecodiesel can be of a concern to you if you want to have this SUV be perfecto for some work.  The 2WD versions offer a towing capacity of 7,400 pounds and the 4WD model will give you 7,200 pounds of pull while the V6 model only offers 6,200 pounds of towing to be enjoyed.  When it comes to having reasonable fuel mileage the fact you add in the capacity to tow this much weight gives you a massive amount of capability for this SUV to be the right choice for you.

In order to gain the EcoDiesel power plant you do have to choose the Summit trim level which starts at $53,000 for the V6 but will cost around $59,000 for this model with the Ecodiesel powertrain.  What you get for this price is an SUV that has a power liftgate, a dual pane sunroof, twenty-inch wheels, a full-size spare tire and the Quadra-Drive II 4WD system.  This is just the beginning as you also receive adaptive bi-xenon HID headlights, a wood-trimmed steering wheel, premium Natura-Plus leather seating and heated and ventilated bucket seats.  Toss in the 19-speaker 825-watt Harmon Kardon surround system that makes for an amazing and enjoyable ride.

As one of the most compelling and respected SUVs on the market for many years it’s no surprise the Ecodiesel model offers you a great ride that is easy to enjoy.  This is the perfect vehicle for taking the whole family out for a camping trip or for towing a load of lumber home to build a new treehouse or playground for the kids.  As one of the most versatile vehicles on the road today the Grand Cherokee gives you a great ride and with the Ecodiesel engine under the hood you will be amazed at the fuel mileage and power this SUV offers.
