2016 Dodge Charger: Four Doors and Lots of Power

2016 Dodge Charger

When you have to go shopping for a sedan and ditch the powerful sports car you have loved for a long time there is a certain pain in your heart that seems to coincide with this occasion.  Yes, it’s a sign of growing up and maturing to join the rest of the workforce as they drive along the commuter roads of the country to be part of the grown up world, but shouldn’t you be able to enjoy a sedan with lots of power that still gives you the fun of driving that you want to feel, especially when you are out on your own?

Thankfully Dodge feels you should be able to enjoy a dynamic and powerful ride even when you have a sedan and offers the Dodge Charger as the answer to your sedan shopping doldrums.  The Charger has a wide range of choices regarding power, engine sizes and the features that are offered.  You can certainly have the space for the growing family while enjoying the aggressiveness of the in-your-face power that the Charger has to give you.  Because this car was redesigned for 2015 the changes for the new model year are minimal and show up with an addition of the Super Track Pack along with the addition of the Plum Crazy color that will be offered for a limited time.

Since we are talking power, let’s see what this beauty has in store for us.  The Charger offers four engine choices and starts at that mildly powerful on up to the insanely strong.  The base engine for the SE and SXT models is the 3.6-liter V6 engine that offers 292 horsepower and 260 lb.-ft. of torque.  This engine is mated to an eight-speed automatic, which is the transmission for all the engines of the Charger.  This pairing gives you 19 city/31 hwy mpg for the RWD and 18 city/27 hwy mpg for the AWD version.

The R/T and R/t Road & Track models show up with the 5.7-liter V8 under the hood making 370 horsepower and 395 lb.-ft. of torque.  This powertrain will show a 16 city/25 hwy mpg for you to take advantage of and have the fun of more power than the base engine.  Heading up to the R/T Scat Pack and SRT 392 trims you see the 6.4-liter V8 which shows up with a massive 485 horsepower and 475 lb.-ft. of torque to be enjoyed while giving you 15 city/25 hwy mpg.

When mpg is not important but insane power is the SRT Hellcat model gives you the 6.2-liter supercharged V8 engine that brings in 707 horsepower and 650 lb.-ft. of torque.  The number for the fuel is only 13 city/22 hwy mpg, but the power you can enjoy to blow others away is simply amazing.  With this awesome engine under the hood you will want to take your Charger to the track after  you drop the kids off at school to enjoy letting this beast loose.

With the classic Charger exterior looks this car is what it appears to be, a heavy but capable track ready muscle car.  Don’t let the two additional doors fool you that just give you a place for more people to enjoy the ride as you race this beauty down any road.  On  the inside the Charger just might shock you with an inviting and comfortable cabin that is functional and easy to love.  The interior is smooth and exciting, giving you the feel of a racer that is ready to be a cruiser as well, making for the perfect marriage between power and function for you to really appreciate.

Looking to the equipment, the base model does offer a few items to create the comfort you want to enjoy, especially when the Charger is your choice for daily driving.  The menu offered includes LED daytime running lights, acoustic front glass, front and rear power windows, a full color seven-inch driver information display and a full cast of great safety features to ensure everyone is able to stay safe in case of an accident.  Most of the trim levels have their own variety of features that you will want to select depending upon the model you are going to drive.

The options for the Charger include the variety of engines that correspond with upgraded suspension levels to make this a sports car that you will want to drive.  Even as a sports car there are some great features such as a power sunroof, a Beats by Dr. Dre and Harman/Kardon sound system, a Super Track Pak, a Premium Group, a Technology Group, the Driver Confidence Group, a Navigation/Rear Backup Camera Group and more to combine a great list of awesome features for you to add to your Charger and have the right car for you and your driving habits.

The price of the Charger is one of the widest ranges without being a luxury car.  The base SE model starts out at $28,900 and will go up $2,000 if you add the AWD package.  The SXT starts at $30,990 while the R/T comes in around $34,890.  Moving to the R/T Scat Pack will ask for $40,990 and the SRT 392 requires you to spend $51,990.  At the top of the lineup the SRT Hellcat shows itself at the $68,640 price tag but is a real bargain per horsepower compared to other top horsepower sports cars.

The drive in the Charger at any level is dynamic, powerful, planted and exciting.  When you move up to some of the higher horsepower versions you get the awesome feeling of a sprint champions which the Charger certainly can be.  Take this beauty through any corners or curves and have a great time driving one of the best performance machines on the market today.  Your Charger is ready for you to take a drive and make the choice to bring it home, are you ready to find the right charger for you?  If so, come on in and see your Dodge dealer and let them help you find the right fit for your lifestyle to give you a sedan that will give you fun from behind the wheel.
