As we discuss vehicles on a regular basis we talk about getting away, going to a faraway place and enjoying a drive that is scenic and offers some of the perfect views for us to enjoy. When we think of this we simply look toward a cross country tour at times which might allow us stretch out, but the reality is most states offer a scenic tour and some outstanding driving roads to be enjoyed. As there is a dense population in the New England area, or just because it’s a great place to visit, you can have a fantastic road trip in a state you might not think of, Vermont.
Vermont has a lot to offer with rolling green hills, historic buildings and plenty of gorgeous fall foliage to give you some of the most enjoyable views. The different locations you can visit and roads to travel will certainly offer you the most relaxing ride along the way that you will be amazed by during your drive and along the trip. With that being said, let’s take the advice of Kelley Ferro and follow her path through Vermont that will certainly give us the ride that we desire.
Starting Point – Drive straight to Stowe and stay at the Trapp Family Lodge which is a hilltop resort that is still owned by the Von Trapp family. You will be greeted by a beautiful German style breakfast in the morning and be able to see some of the gorgeous scenery around you which just happens to be the mountains that surround the chalet. Stay for most of the day and ride the gondola to the top of Stowe Mountain to enjoy lunch at the Cliff House or the Harvest Market and continue to be amazed by the surrounding scenery.
Next Stop – Only thirty miles away down Route 100S, which is a National Scenic Byway that has gained the nickname of the “Skiers Highway” you will find the town of Warren and should have a reservation at The Pitcher Inn. Along the way you can stop for some sweet treats if you desire, or you can head right through the Mad River Valley and past several towns that are picturesque and absolutely gorgeous. Warren is a small and historic stop which requires a visit to the Warren Store which has been around since 1839 and offers a wide variety of items you won’t find anywhere else.
Keep on Going – After a great night’s sleep and dinner at The Pitcher Inn and of course a hearty breakfast, continue on down the road to Woodstock. Once you arrive, check in at the Woodstock Inn and enjoy dinner at the well known The Prince and the Pauper which will amaze you with their menu. Woodstock is also a great place to enjoy a round of golf if you have brought your sticks along with you. A visit to Simon Pearce is required when here which you will certainly enjoy the waterfall running through the place and the exquisite glasswork form this world renowned glassblower company.
Back on the Road – Only sixty miles away you will find Middlebury which is ahead on 4W and 7N. This leg of the trip is meant to give you the fun of driving you have been looking for during this ride down the road and will certainly give you a challenge with the drive. Be sure to make the run during the day so you can enjoy the amazing views that are offered as the roads cut through the landscape. The stay in Middlebury should be enjoyed from the Basin Harbor Club that offers you private cottage rooms on the lake and dinner is perfect at that Starry Night Café, giving you an amazing experience to think about the awesome drive you just made to get here.
Coming to the End – The final destination on your Vermont road trip will end in Shelburne which is only 24 miles ahead on VT-22N and US-7N. This is a waterfront town that is nestled into the shores of Lake Champlain and take a tour of Shelburne Farms which is full of rich history and produces a great Vermont cheddar cheese. Dinner at the Shelburne Vineyard is just what you need to finish your trip and reminisce about the amazing amount of fantastic scenery you just enjoyed.
