2016 Hyundai Accent: Value at the Right Price

2016 Hyundai Accent

When looking for a vehicle in the low teens for price you have a variety of choices but most of them do not have the features or the warrant the Hyundai Accent offers.  With the standard powertrain warranty from Hyundai of 10 years/100,000 miles this car is hard to beat.  As a vehicle that now feels much more substantial than the older versions of the Accent you can have your Accent I either a five door hatchback or a sedan to give you the choice of build that is right for you.  In the subcompact class the Accent stands out as a fun and easy to love car to own.

Hyundai has made a habit of filling their cars with great features and making them easy to enjoy on the road.  For the new Accent you add revised trim level names which show us the GLS and GS being replaced with the new SE trim.  The Sport trim has also lost the power sunroof option, but otherwise this car is very much the same as the one offered for 2015.  As an attractive and easy to enjoy car the Accent certainly offers you what you want in a car that is priced right.

When you think of an economy car you might think of the clunky steering, difficult acceleration, and cheap looks all around.  The Accent certainly will surprise you and make you wonder how it ended up in the economy class.  With a drive that you can easily enjoy on any road this car offers a steering that is direct and responsive while the suspension gives you the feedback you need to adjust your driving.  You want to feel you made a great choice even at the lower price levels and the Accent certainly allows you to feel that way.

When you head under the hood you will only find one engine offered.  This is of course a way to keep costs down.  This engine is a wonderful 1.6-liter inline four-cylinder that gives you 137 horsepower and 123 lb.-ft. of torque.  While this sounds meager you will certainly enjoy the peppy acceleration this car possesses.  The engine can be attached to either a manual or automatic transmission, both of which are six-speed versions, to bring you a fuel mileage of 27 city/38 hwy mpg with the manual and 26 city/37 hwy mpg for the automatic.  Certainly you can have a great time driving with a bit more power than most compacts and an excellent acceleration.

Looking to the interior of the car you see there is room for five to fit inside although the back seat is a little small as most cars in this class will show.  The look isn’t overtly designed or exciting but its functionality makes this a car you can easily find favor with.  With backlit buttons and knobs all the controls are easy to find even at night making it a nice ride at any time of day.  The 13.7 cubic foot trunk and 60/40 split folding rear seat makes it easy to haul extra gear home.
On the exterior Hyundai continues to impress us with some great styling cues.  The rising beltline that has become a signature is in place to give us the look of a car on the go.  The front end offers a set of swept back headlights that are elegant and attractive.  The narrow grill adds to the high end style that will make you look twice at the sticker wondering how such a beauty ended up with this low of a price.

As is the tradition from Hyundai the Accent is loaded with great features for us to take full advantage of when on the road.  As the base model the car comes with air conditioning, power windows and door locks, a 172-watt audio system with a USB port and iPod integration and  a six-way adjustable driver’s seat to ensure you have all the most important creature comforts you want.  The Sport is the top trim (there are only two) and the standard features add a tilt and telescoping steering wheel, automatic headlights, heated side mirrors, Bluetooth connectivity, 16-inch wheels, a sport tuned steering wheel, and high gloss interior accents.  All new Hyundai models off five years of 24-hour roadside assistance, regardless of miles driven to give a certain peace of mind to any owner.

Looking to the options we find the automatic transmission and a few packaged items.  The Popular Equipment Package will add cruise control, Bluetooth connectivity, heated side mirrors, a telescoping steering wheel and steering wheel mounted audio controls.  The Style Package brings in upgraded materials for the interior, fog lights, rear disc brakes, 16-inch alloy wheels and projector headlights with LED accents to give your Accent the look you want at a price that is easy to live with.

For most vehicles there are features that certainly stand out.  For the Hyundai Accent the ones that stand out quickly are the warranty and audio system.  The warrant of five-years/60,000 mile basic coverage, ten-year/100,000 mile powertrain coverage and full five years of roadside assistance is unmatched and makes buying a Hyundai the right choice.  The audio system of this car may not be glorious, but at 172-watts and six-speakers it’s certainly better than having to pay for an audio system as an upgrade which can be the case in many of the cars in this class.

I said it a few times and now it’s time to show you just what the pricing structure for the Accent will be.  At the base price the SE trim will start at $15,570 with the automatic transmission bringing that price up by $1,000.  The hatchback starts at $15,820 and the Sport will offer a starting price of $17,320.  Even adding all the features you can will not break the $20,000 mark which makes the Accent a great car for just about any driver.  If you are looking for a great car for a teen headed off to college or you want an economical car for your daily commute, the Accent will certainly make a great choice.
